Student: Masie Monroe, sophomore

Nominating staff member: Mrs. Bonnie Mallmann, FACE teacher

Nomination statement: “Masie is kind, caring and very helpful. I’ve had the honor of working with Masie in class and in the community, and she is always there for those in need. She has been a mentor to students with disabilities and has been an advocate for Special Olympics. Her enthusiasm is contagious.”

What’s a “naughty” thing you did as a kid? “At my babysitter’s when I was little, we had naptime, and I slept in the hallway on a cot. I peeled the paint off the wall and got into some trouble.”

What was the last thing that made you feel like an idiot? “Believing that there was a left-handed rake for the softball diamond.”

Whom is your hero and why? “My heroes are my parents. They are great

role models, kind to everyone and always willing to go the extra mile to make someone feel better. And I love that about them.”

If you could be a fictional character, whom would you be and why? “I would probably choose Katniss Everdeen from ‘The Hunger Games’ because she is brave and would do anything.”

Where do you see yourself in five years? “I see myself in college going to school to become a developmental disabilities nurse.”

What is your secret talent? “I can wiggle my pinky toe.”
