Student: Brody Waldron, sophomore
Nominating staff member: Jenie Farrell, Director of the Engler Center for the Performing Arts
Nomination statement: “Brody Waldron has stepped up to fill some big shoes in our tech booth here at the Engler Center. With 2021 senior Kory Karls graduating last spring — in addition to battling the constraints that COVID-19 put upon us — we had to find a student who could pick up the lightboard quickly and demonstrated a keen eye for lighting precision with creativity. There was no doubt in our mind that Brody was the right student to take this role over. He was put to work last summer during the community production of ‘Charlie Brown,’ training under Kory and a professional lighting/tech expert, Brady Kees. With this knowledge, he was able to create and program lighting for our high school’s fall musical all while being a cast member and training another student to operate the lightboard. This required many extra hours in the theatre outside of his rehearsal time, which he was happy to do. Brody has also stepped up in many areas of our theatre. This includes helping with set construction, helping me move and change our December concert setups numerous times, keeping me updated on what parts I need to order to keep our lighting system running and so on. I am very proud of Brody and look forward to watching him grow further throughout his high school career.”
